Penang: Frenz Republic

Location

It's located at Lebuh Melayu. As it's the first destination right after I have landed, it took around 30-minute drive from Penang International Airport. It's a quite lovely neighborhood-- I can tell it's pretty quiet as well and many food kiosks & mid-range scale restaurants around. There's also a coffee shop located right below the accommodation. They do tasty Nasi Goreng & decent Iced Coffee.

Ambiance

There's an announcement on the wall telling something that "you're not staying in a hotel, you're staying in an old building so be mindful about another people at the other room". And by any time I am staying in a hotel, I always set my expectation to zero. I booked a huge 3-bed room style for myself that costs "only" RM 280 for 2 nights (it's around IDR 1 mil) because I felt like I had to breathe a little bit after my Singapore claustrophobic hotel experience I had yesterday.

The vibe they're giving is dark enough-- even on the daylight. Plus thing is the facade of the building as it embraces its surroundings. Again, there's a disclaimer that it's not a so-called "hotel". But I'm pretty sure they're selling experience from self check-in, public pantry, and stuff.

Summary

Walkable area to Georgetown's key places, food stalls, coffee shops & restaurants. A very good price knowing that it's for below RM 300, I had a room with 3-bed for myself for 2 nights.
